texture analysis by histogram

This menu lets you perform histogram texture analysis on greyscale images. Before you can use it,
you must create a punch-out bitmap, which makes the software consider only a restricted set of pixels from your greyscale image when it
performs the analysis. The menu performs two main functions:
- It lets you generate a file containing statistical measures of the selected image pixels.
- It lets you create a new bitmap by selecting bars from the histogram of the selected pixels.
The procedure is as follows:
- Enter the names of your greyscale image and punch-out bitmap in the Bitmap image and B&W image menu fields. These two images must be the same size.
- Set the number of histogram divisions you want in the Divisions menu field.
- Set the Cumulative? toggle according to whether you want the histogram to be regular or cumulative.
- Set the display width for the histogram (and the image) by entering the width in the Display width menu field.
- Set the Logarithmic frequency axis? toggle to Yes if you want the y-axis of the histogram to be logarithmic.
- Click on DISPLAY HISTOGRAM to display a histogram of the pixels selected by the bitmap. The system selects pixels whose corresponding
pixels in the punch-out bitmap are black.
- If you wish, you can create a data file with statistical measures of the histogram data by entering the
name you want for the file in the Data file name menu field, and clicking
on SAVE HISTOGRAM DATA.
- If you wish, you can create an X image of the histogram (suitable for pasting into clipboards) by entering
the name you want for the X image in the X image name menu field, and clicking on SAVE X IMAGE.
- The right-hand-side of the menu works the same way as the Histogram Segmentation menu. See the online help for that menu if you
are unfamiliar with the procedure for performing a histogram segmentation.
