• The IMS1000 real-time video frame grabber, manufactured by Image Manipulation Systems, Inc. This frame grabber includes a frame buffer, and requires that you use a special version of X-Windows that IMS provides. Its major advantage is that it works with RGB video, and is capable of displaying (on the workstation screen) full-color images in real time.

• The Videopix frame grabber, manufactured by Sun Microsystems, Inc. This is a much less expensive frame grabber that has some disadvantages. It handles only NTSC, PAL, or SVIDEO signals, it is not as precise as the IMS1000 (especially with regard to color), and it does not provide a real time video display on the workstation screen.
