profiling menu

This menu is for generating intensity profiles. An intensity profile is a graph of the
intensity of image pixels that lie on a particular path across the image. Such a graph can be
helpful if you are trying to look for subtle image features, or trying to compare intensity
levels at different points in an image. The procedure is as follows:
- You select an image by clicking on one of the image categories at the top of the menu.
- You click on DISPLAY IMAGE to display the image.
- You set the width of the path by entering a number of pixels in the Path width(pixels) menu field.
If the path width is greater than one, the system averages intensity
values along a line perpendicular to the path at each evaluation point along the path.
- You click on DRAW PROFILE PATH. They system prompts you to describe the path by
clicking repeatedly on button 1. Draw the path along the area of the image you want
to profile.
- You click on DISPLAY PROFILE. The system displays the intensity profile for your
path. You can repeat steps 4 and 5 as many times as you like.
You can set the units the system uses to report the distance along the path by entering them in
the Units menu field. You can save the graph as an X image file by entering a name in
the Graph file menu field, and then clicking on SAVE GRAPH. This X image can be displayed in the Display menu or pasted into clipboards.
