icometrics setup menu

This menu lets you customize the way IcoMetrics behaves. Most of the items in this menu
can also be set using command-line options, but you may find it more convenient to set
them here, so IcoMetrics always comes up the way you want it.
Whenever you run IcoMetrics, the software examines the contents of this menu (invisibly)
to determine what your default preferences are. It then looks to see if you have specified
any command-line options, and overrides the defaults if you have. Thus if you are in a right-handed
user's account, you can run IcoMetrics with a -handedness l option to make it temporarily
work in left-handed mode.
The customizable settings are:
- Screen orientation
- This determines whether the user interface is optimized for right- or left-handed people.
- File name keypads
- Set this to Enabled if you want to be able to select a file name by clicking in a little pop-up keypad.
If you are working in directory that contain very many images, these keypads can get too large. In that
case, set it to Disabled and the keypads will not appear (and you can just type in image names).
- Numeric keypads
- Set this to Enabled if you want to be able to enter numbers using the little numeric pop-up keypad.
Set it to Disabled if you would rather just type numbers in.
- Workstation bell volume
- Use this to adjust how loudly your workstation beeps when IcoMetrics wants to warn you about something.
The loudness scale goes from 1 (softest) to 10 (loudest). Use 0 if you don't want the workstation to
make a sound at all.
- Pointer positioning
- Set this to Enabled if you want IcoMetrics to move the mouse pointer to wherever it last was when you
reenter a menu. This can drastically reduce the amount of pointer movement. If you are annoyed by programs
that move the pointer around, disable this behavior by setting it to Disabled.
- Pop-up keypad location
- This setting determines where pop-up keypads appear, relative to the location of the field you clicked
on. The settings are like compass directions (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW) where North is up and South
is down. An additional setting, C, centers the keypad on the field.
- Addendum to file names
- This setting lets you compensate for the fact that Apple's file sharing software appends strings to
image file names when you are using a shared Apple disk. For example, if you create an image file
on a shared Apple disk called test.n, their software will call the file test.n_UNIXTEXT. We recommend
that you set the Addendum to _* in such situations.
- Use scalable fonts?
- This toggle determines whether scalable fonts appear
in the four fields immediately below it. If set to Yes, both fixed and scalable fonts will appear.
If set to No, only fixed fonts may be selected. Scalable fonts display a bit more slowly (the first time you use one),
but they give you more flexibility, since the text size can be anything you want.
- Graph font foundry, etc.
- These four fields let you define the font IcoMetrics uses in graphs and histograms. You should enter
values in the fields starting at the top (Graph font foundry) and work your way down, since what you see
in one of the lower fields depends on what the fields above it contain.
