calibration menu

Calibrating an image means setting the dimensions of the pixels that make up the image. Once
an image has been calibrated, you can measure the objects in the image (see the MEASURE menu)
or generate accurate statistics about the objects in whatever units you choose (see the ANALYZE
menus). The procedure for calibrating an image is as follows:
- You display the image by selecting an image and then clicking on the DISPLAY menu
field.
- You select a (preferably large) image feature whose length is known. Enter this
length in the Distance menu field, and set the units in both the X-units and Y-units menu fields.
- You click on SET BOTH DISTANCES. The system prompts you to indicate the specified
distance on the image with two clicks. This causes the image to be calibrated. The
resulting pixel dimensions will appear on the menu.
It is possible to set the horizontal and vertical calibrations independently. To do this,
first enter the known x-distance, set the X-units field appropriately, and click on
SET X DISTANCE. Indicate the horizontal measurement with two clicks. Then enter the known
y-distance, set the Y-units field, click on SET Y DISTANCE, and indicate the vertical distance
with two clicks.
