IcoMetrics is a very portable ANSI C, UNIX, X Windows program. Ports are underway for the Sun Solaris environment and the DEC Alpha OSF/1 (now called Digital Unix) environment. When these ports are complete, we will begin to develop support for the PC world by a port to Linux. At the same time, we will begin the more dificult task of porting the user interface to Windows.
We chose Linux as the first PC port since we expect only minor changes will be required. Linux provides,for a cost of much less than $100 USD, a good UNIX environment on the PC platform . Linux provides a complete UNIX development platform for the PC.
The Windows environment (both NT and 95, but not 3.1) supports large systems like IcoMetrics easily. The interesting work will be to develop a new, Windows oriented, user interface for IcoMetrics. We expect the Windows ports to be available in late 1997 and early 1998. Please check here for new announcements and ports.
